Eat. Live. Be. for a Better 2011 – Online Fitness Blogs

My Update: I have potentially good news.

I’m excited.  Bouncy on my toes excited.

I might get the chance to work at the same place as my husband.

I might get the chance to have a part time job with partial benefits.

I might get the chance to do a job that sounds fun and so totally out of my field that it makes me giddy.

I had a phone interview that was a recap interview from a previous one I had with the company for a different position.  At the end of the call, the interviewer very kindly wished me a good evening.

And then I said:  “I hope you have  a good day at work.”

You know, cause I was at home.

Foot, meet mouth.

They laughed a bit at the end so I think it was okay, but honestly, I’m the QUEEN of saying just the wrong thing at the wrong time.  I’ve had this problem since childhood and while I’ve gotten better over the years at self-censoring what comes out of my mouth, it never fails to show itself at the wrong time.

Le sigh.

Still, I have really good feelings about this job and I think I’ve got it. 😀

(Knock on wood!)

This whole job thing is also why this ELB post is late this week.  Apologies but I was busy gathering my thoughts for the interview.  I’m glad I did since it was a full interview and not a half-hearted one I hoped it would be.

So, now I’m sitting back, listening to the Penguins smother the Panthers, and relaxing.

(Phone Interview Tip: When you’re taking really important phone calls, move your bird away from his favorite bell.  Bird will ring the bell loudly and repeatedly. Trust me. )

iChallenge Week 41 Topic:  Online Fitness blogs

After making the life-changing decision to become healthier, I started to look online for help and advice.  I was fairly healthy and I had full support from my doctor, so I was up to trying most any exercise.   My list started off with more professional blogs such as Livestrong, but soon I was drawn to real-life struggles and successes.  Even though I wasn’t out to lose weight, I loved the inspiration that came from reading the experiences of others.

I want to use this week’s challenge to share with you the blogs I follow for fitness tips, stories and motivation.

I also want to share with you a brilliant way to organize all of your blogs for easy reading.  It’s called Google Reader and it’s the bees knees.  Prior to using Google Reader, I simply had a folder in my browser with the RSS feeds.  This worked, but I usually spent a long time checking each feed link for updates (and after my list went over 10 blogs, this took more time than I wanted to spend).

Here’s what my reader looks like:

I now can keep all of my blogs organized and the reader tells you right away when you have a new post to read.  I LOVE that!  I can star items for future reference, send them to facebook or click on it to see it on the original blog.

Love, love, love my reader.

Now, onto the blogs.

Here are a couple of my favorites:

  1. Eats Well With Others – Joanne’s blog might fool you into believing that it’s a food blog, but don’t let it.  Sure, there are delicious recipes and beautiful pics (I swear I bookmark nearly every recipe), but it’s a food blog with substance.  She shares a bit of her life with you as she tempts you with yummy food pics.  I really like how she discusses fitness hurtles, health issues and life successes in an engaging and inspiring way.  Most food blogs just talk food, but Joanne’s always ties food in with life – just like how it is.
  2. Keeping up with Katie – If you want to be inspired to keep running and maintaining, then definitely visit Katie’s fun and upbeat blog.  I love how much positive energy comes through her posts, even if she’s talking about food temptations or exercise woes.  Even though I don’t run like she does or do marathons, I love to read about her races because they inspire me to keep with my own exercise routine.
  3. Questions for Dessert – I’m a bit new to Krissie’s blog, but so far I feel really connected to her.  She writes with such honesty about a lot of aspects of life and health that I see myself reflected in her posts.  I like how she always makes me think hard about weighty issues and that’s a good thing!
  4. The Lunchbox Diaries – Colleen has such a fun blog.  I always have a smile on my face as I read about her woes  experience with exercise and her day-to-day life.  One requirement I have to keeping a blog in my reader is authenticity.  A blogger needs to be true to herself and Colleen’s blog is just that – it feels like you’re having a conversation with her about lunch, exercise and everything in-between.

These are just a handful of the blogs that I routinely check.  I hope that you’ll find them just as good as I do and check them out!

(Quickie disclaimer: The review of Google Reader is my own.  I wasn’t asked to do one or given anything for it.  If only. 😉 )

  1. You are SO SWEET! Thank you so much for including me in this list! Food is so intrinsically a part of life for me that I’d find it impossible to separate the two even if I tried. Now I need to check out these other blogs!

Good luck with the job. I’ll be keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you!
